5 Tips To Treat Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is highly contagious and can happen as the result of a bacterial or viral infection or an allergic reaction to seasonal pollen. It’s not always curable with eye drops but these 5 natural remedies have proven their effectiveness through ages.

Honey

Honey is both, antiviral and antibacterial so you don’t have to try figuring out what caused you the conjunctivitis. Add a few drops of honey in half a cup of purified water and warm it up. Use a clean dropper to put the drops in both eyes 2-3 times daily.

Breast Milk

If your infant has got conjunctivitis and you are scared to death that the baby will lose its vision or something, here’s good news. The best treatment is right here with you. Squirt a little breast milk in both eyes to let the antibody immunoglobulin ‘A’ take over. This prevents the bacteria from settling down on the mucosal surface itself.

Raw Potatoes

Slice fresh raw potatoes and place them on both the eyes to soothe the pain and irritation of conjunctivitis. Do this as many times as required.

Salt Water

Add some salt in distilled or reverse osmosis water or just plain tap water purified by boiling. Cool the salt water and wash the eyes with this solution to cure the infection. Don’t add more than half a teaspoon of salt in a cup of water else the eyes will burn from too much salt.
