5 Herbal Remedies for Yeast Infections

Yeast infection in the sexual organs is commonly seen in both men and women because it can be transferred via sexual contact from one person to another. In women the yeast infection is termed vaginitis and in men it is called penile yeast infection.

Medical treatment of yeast infection in both the sexes involves use of antibiotics and creams and gels for topical application. 1. Garlic

Apart from adding flavor and aroma to a dish garlic is also known for its medicinal actions that cure infections caused by yeast and fungi. The herb is also easy to use for treating the infection; all you have to do is take 5-6 pods of garlic and crush them well after peeling off their skin. Apply the crushed garlic directly over the infected penis in men. Wrap the garlic paste using a medicated gauze and leave for a couple of hours. Wash the area with warm water after removing the garlic. Repeat the treatment after 30 minutes.

In case of women, insert garlic pessary deep into the vagina. Wrap four uncrushed but peeled pods of garlic in medicated gauze; leave on end of the gauze longer so as to let it hang from outside the vagina. Leave the garlic pessary in the vagina for 3-4 hours and then throw it away. Wash the vagina using warm water and allow it to dry completely before inserting another garlic pessary after 20 minutes. The treatment should be repeated thrice a day for four days to get rid of the infection completely.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Fill the bath tub with warm water and pour 5 cups of organic apple cider vinegar in the water. Mix well before soaking yourself in the treated water. Remain in the water for 15 minutes or more until the water turns cold. Ensure that your legs are wide open so that your infected organs receive the medicated water treatment.

Apple cider vinegar has strong anti-bacterial properties that make it ideal for treating infection. The medicinal properties of cider will also take care of itching and discomfort associated with yeast infection. Women can even use diluted form of apple cider vinegar as a douche to clean the vagina off yeast. You can take apple cider bath any number of times through the day to fasten the process of healing.

3. Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is a medicinal herb that is also a major ingredient in many skin care cosmetics these days. The soothing properties of witch hazel make it an excellent herb for treating various skin conditions. It is specifically used as an astringent because it helps restore the –pH balance of the skin after it has been washed using soap. It is this quality of witch hazel that makes the herb useful in the treatment of yeast infection. The herb gets rid of the infection causing yeast that live in the sexual organs of the human body but lead to infection if they outgrow their number.

The herbal properties of witch hazel help restore the disturbed –pH balance of the genitals by removing the excessive yeast. Use organic witch hazel in the treatment of yeast infection. You can even make your own witch hazel water at home; boil leaves of witch hazel in water for 10-15 minutes and then allow the mixture to cool. Strain the mix and discard the boiled leaves of witch hazel. Wash the infected areas of the body using witch hazel water repeatedly through the day. The treatment should be done 5-6 times a day for 4-5 days to recover completely from the infection.

4. Tea Tree

Tea tree is an essential oil with natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that are widely used in the treatment of yeast infection in both men and women. The anti-infection enzymes in tea tree oil ensure that the growth of yeast is restricted and that their removal from the body is begun as soon as possible.

Dip a tampon in organic form of tea tree oil and insert the treated tampon in your vagina. Leave the tampon in the vagina for 3-4 hours but never sleep with it overnight. Change the tampon every four hours after cleaning the vagina with warm water and drying it thoroughly.

Men should dip cotton buds in tea tree oil and place the treated cotton over their penis. Wrap the cotton around the penis using medicated gauze so the cotton doesn’t move. Change the treated cotton every three hours after washing the penis. The treatment using tea tree essential oil should be done thrice a day for 3-4 days to ensure that the infection causing yeast are all gone.

5. Organic Oregano Oil

Oregano is an Italian herb that is used in cooking popular dishes like pizzas and pastas. However, the oil of oregano is a known essential oil that helps treat infections caused by yeast including candida. Oregano capsules are available in the market but to treat yeast infections it is best to use oregano oil.

Pour 9 drops of oregano oil over a multi-vitamin capsule and consume the treated capsule after a meal. The capsule should be taken thrice a day for four days but it should never be had empty stomach or it may cause severe vomiting and diarrhea.
