The Surgery
The procedure may be done under local anesthesia or a general one.
The doctor makes incisions inside the nose to reach the tissue to be corrected. It is rare for him to cut the visible part of the nose. Once he accesses the bone or the cartilage or the tissue, he will either remove the excessive portion or add as per the requirement.
Most of the time your own bone, cartilage or the tissue will be taken from some other part of the body. At times a synthetic filler may be used. The doctor will keep a splint as a support till the wound heals. For additional support some other packing may also be used. Your doctor may send you home the same day or may like to keep you under observation for a day.
After The Surgery
As you recuperate, there are going to be a few difficult days ahead. There will be a lot of pain and swelling on your face around your nose. Your eyes also will be swollen. All this may last for a week or two. The doctor will prescribe the medicines to take care of all these so that they do not flare up.
Cold compresses will be of great help to look after inflammation.
Risks Involved
There may be some risks and complications, as they are with any other surgery. Most of them will be temporary, like not being able to breathe through the nose bleeding and swelling. There may be excessive bleeding and the scare of an infection.
When the surgeon is not so experienced and your own expectations were not realistic, then the desired result may not be achieved.
