Post nasal drip is in no way a threatening  condition, but it is enough to irritate no ends. Though it  goes away on its own  after a few days,  we can help ourselves nevertheless, with some home remedies so that it gets sorted out faster and is less bothersome.

Neti Pot

Though some may not find it either comfortable or suitable, it can help most of the people,  in post nasal drip relief.  But all said and done, if you said that it doesn’t work for you, it is worth asking, whether you tried it well enough? Well, here are the guidelines: your neti pot should be a correct one, and it  is available at the health stores. Before beginning with flushing your nose with neti water, learn to breathe through your mouth, without making use of your nose at all. Remember, it is essential, it can not be ignored.

Now, let us learn the correct method of making the water ready, the water that you take  should be lukewarm, add to it a small pinch of table salt. The salt content should be like the taste of tears.  Stand near a basin, with your head tilted on one side but looking somewhat up. Insert the spout of the neti pot in the nostril which is up, start letting the water in, breathing through your mouth and you will see that water starts coming out of the other nostril. Repeat the same from the second nostril.

Drink plenty of water

Can drinking plenty of water be considered a remedy? Yes, it does. Because, many people do not pay much attention to drinking adequate quantity of water. Whenever we catch cold, water becomes a healing agent. Do stay hydrated, this will help in reducing post nasal drip.

Drink hot soups

They  will help you immensely. Hot soups, specially in winters, can give you a lot of respite from post nasal drip.

Ginger candies are helpful in post nasal drip.  You can chew a small piece if ginger or even make infusion of ginger, add honey and drink three times a day. Take it for 5  days or till you feel relief.

Peppermint oil

Peppermint oil will help in decongesting the clogged area. Apply a bit of oil on a clean moist cloth and sniff.

Avoid

Stay away from smoke, smog and dusty areas as much as possible.
